ANDY PHILLIPS

VIDEO EDITOR, AD PRODUCER, CREATIVE DIRECTOR

Based in Chicago, Illinois

DIGITAL & DOCUMENTARY.

In 2016, during my sophomore year of college, I was an Executive Producer for the PBS (WSIU) television & streaming program, “alt.news 26:46.” This nearly half-hour segment & skit-based program took myself & the staff all over the country & globe. “Christmas in Cleveland” remains one of my personal favorites that I directed and filmed with a skeleton crew over a weekend, then edited for broadcast television standards in less than 48 hours. It’s messy, but it’s all me.

Local & learning.

Coming from a smaller community, my video skills first blossomed because of my school & local events. As I’ve built my freelance career, these same sources gave me more chances than I can count. As I’ve continued crafting my approach to tasteful yet effective advertising, I hope to pass that same spirit unto future students. (Seen: St. Rita High School, Class of ‘28)

hosting & interviews.

Back in 2020, I was lockdown-living in an ant-infested North Hollywood apartment trying my best. Meanwhile, Geoff Keighley was attempting to build a summer gaming event from the ashes of E3 in a digital way. As chance would have it, we ended up meeting later that year.

Geoff came in clutch and accepted my ask for an interview on my YouTube channel. When filming wrapped, Geoff asked me to help him out by managing his new co-streaming program for The Game Awards.

If I’ve ever had a big break, this video is representative of that.

GRANTS & NON-PROFIT.

It’s crucial to my career and mental health to keep a proper balance between creative fun and educational / non-profit driven work. Thanks to Peg Paul & Associates, I’ve filmed and edited numerous videos for the overall betterment of firefighters, educators and communities nationwide.

MOBILE & VERIFIED.

For the past several years, I’ve had the fortunate role as solo mobile editor and creative director for The Game Awards & Summer Game Fest TikTok accounts. From on-screen essays, hype promos or self-aware memes, I’ve been able to help build these platforms to over half a million followers & tens of millions of views.

Geoff Keighley deserves credit here; he has given me so much creative control over the years. This job has felt like the best toy-box / sandbox a kid could ask for.

a fun, random GIG.

In 2021, I got the chance to remotely-produce this piece for Amazon Games at Summer Game Fest. With general COVID restrictions still in place, it was a new challenge for me to figure out how to organize the crew from across the country, schedule & budget a larger production and book health / safety tests for all involved. Plus, actually making a quality piece.

Of course, it all came together, and that’s most definitely because of the amazing crew we had behind it. It was a very beneficial experience to have.
